SkySparc Strengthens Middle East Presence with New Dubai-based Entity

Thorough testing ensures quality and confidence in system upgrade

The challenge

SBAB Bank AB, a Swedish state-owned financial institution, initiated a major project to modernize its core financial system and improve overall performance and functionality.
The upgrade was a high-visibility initiative with clear requirements for quality, auditability, and timely delivery.

During scoping, the project team decided to reconfigure several long-standing system elements — including portfolio naming conventions and static data structures — to achieve long-term efficiency gains. While valuable, these changes added to the project’s complexity.
The initiative also involved multiple interfaces with other departments and systems, each requiring validation and sign-off before go-live.

Recognizing the importance of rigorous, independent testing, SBAB selected SkySparc to manage the project’s full testing cycle using its well-established methodology and OmniFi testing platform.

We knew SkySparc for their deep knowledge of their well-developed testing methodology and for their OmniFi testing platform. Given the emphasis on quality and auditability of the project, it was very helpful to have SkySparc manage the end-to-end testing as an expert third party with a clear and documented methodology. - Helena Tummings, Business Project Manager, SBAB

The solution

SBAB implemented a three-pillar model to ensure strong governance and segregation of responsibilities:

1.     Configuration – led internally by SBAB’s business project team

2.     Interface development and IT – managed jointly with an external technology partner

3.     Testing – managed independently by SkySparc

SkySparc provided experienced business consultants and a dedicated testing manager to define the overall test plan, design the test-case library, and coordinate across project streams.

Using OmniFi, SkySparc accelerated configuration and integration testing through automation and graphical mapping. The team conducted:

·       Configuration and unit testing

·       Systems integration testing (SIT)

·       User acceptance testing (UAT) coordination and sign-off

OmniFi’s automation replaced manual testing steps, ensuring speed, repeatability, and transparency. Complex mapping from legacy formats to new configurations was handled efficiently through OmniFi’s intuitive interface, helping maintain project timelines despite the expanded scope.

SkySparc brought a lot of experience and problem-solving capacity to the project,” says Tummings.

The result

The project was completed on time and within budget, with full validation and approval from all stakeholder departments.
SBAB achieved all its objectives — improved performance, cleaner configuration, and fully auditable results. The successful outcome has since been recognized internally as a reference project for future initiatives.

The collaboration also resulted in valuable knowledge transfer. SBAB’s finance team now uses OmniFiindependently for automation and reporting, with several newly trained power users applying the tool in additional business processes.

“We now have a reusable test library and clear methodology for future upgrades and patches, which saves time and ensures consistency,” says Tummings.

SBAB Bank AB was established in 1985 and is wholly owned by the Swedish state. SBAB began challenging conventions early, first as a residential mortgage institution and later as a bank. SBAB offers loans and savings services in areas where our ability to challenge and simplify gives us the market’s most satisfied customers. The products are divided into two areas: lending and savings. The lending area offers residential mortgages, loans to tenant-owner associations and retail loans. The savings area offers savings accounts and mutual-funds. SBAB has approximately 470 employees, with offices in Karlstad, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. SBAB’s Finance and Accounting Department runs Wallstreet Suite as the core financial system for treasury management. Aggregated lending and savings data is imported from the banking systems to ensure a complete view of the balance sheet for group-wide risk management.
